Life-changing Learning

Providing programming and classes to prepare adult learners to achieve their next level of best.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build better futures for adults by teaching literacy, life, and work skills that empower them to reach their highest potential.

Literacy Action is a pipeline to employment, better wages, technical colleges, and the university system. We offer free classes to all levels of adult (ages 16 and over) learners working toward a certain functionality goal or a specific credential, like passing the GED exam, ESL and Citizenship classes. Real world context, health, digital and financial literacy are components of every class.

Our Vision

Literacy Action’s vision is to set the standard of excellence in the field of adult basic education and break the intergenerational cycle of low literacy and poverty.

Our E3 Approach

Our E3 program provides holistic support with core educational and work readiness services, vocational training, a strong employment network, and the types of career ladders that promote economic stability.

Our Programs

Adult Basic Education and GED

We offer various levels of reading and writing, mathematics, computer training, and GED preparatory classes, as well as electives in digital, health, and financial literacy.

ESOL Conversation and Citizenship

We provide ESOL conversation classes for adult learners as well as citizenship preparation for all parts of the Citizenship Process. We also provide programming for refugee-serving organizations and local housing authorities.

Certifications

In order to help prepare adults for careers, we offer certifications in Microsoft Office, Guest Services, Maintenance Tech and Northstar Digital Literacy.

Family Literacy

Our family literacy programs foster reading for the entire family, ensuring parents and grandparents have both the literacy skills and knowledge of strong learning behaviors that they need to reinforce what their children are learning in school and assist with homework.

Academic Affairs Support

We are committed to helping adult learners overcome the barriers that may prevent them from achieving their goals. Admissions counselors work with students to provide transportation assistance, referrals for childcare, and even access to a mobile vision clinic for free eye exams.

Workforce Literacy

We complement our academic programming with transitions services that provide students with support in areas such as resume building, interview skills, professionalism and financial aid access in order to achieve their work and life goals once they have achieved their academic goals.
