Literacy Action and alumna Christina Reid were the recipients of the 2018 Sue Wieland Embracing Possibility Award!
In 2006, Sue Wieland and her husband John made a $1 million gift to The Atlanta Women’s Foundation (AWF). That generosity continues to be honored with the annual Sue Wieland Embracing Possibility Award. The award is for a selected organization that demonstrates the outstanding ability to make significant change in the lives of women and girls through their ongoing work.
Literacy Action was honored to receive the award at the 2018 AWF annual fundraising luncheon with featured speakers Laura W. Bush, Former First Lady of the United States, and Dr. Jill Biden, Former Second Lady of the United States.
Christina’s Story
“The services at Literacy Action have impacted my life because without Literacy Action, I would not have completed my associate degree in Early Childhood Education. Literacy Action has taught me you are never too old to get your education. I thought time was running out on me when I was 25 years old and I had not enrolled in college.”
